Cranial Osteopathy

What is Cranial Osteopathy?

Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle and effective hands on treatment that focuses on finding and resolving tissue restrictions with distinct techniques within the Cranial Sacral system, which consists of the cranial bones, cranial and spinal dura, central nervous system, cerebro-spinal fluid and the sacrum. Clients often report feeling very relaxed but clear headed after a treatment, this is due in part to the central nervous system and its involvement in the process. Finding a knowledgeable confident and experienced practitioner will make the difference in a swifter recovery.

Cranial Osteopathy was so named by one of the founding forefathers of Osteopathy, Dr. William Sutherland. It is practiced by trained Osteopathic practitioners that have gone on to further study the cranial concepts of this technique. From this original model, there have been the development of different therapeutic models that have seen Cranial Osteopathy branch out in different directions from the same “vein”.

Pediatric Cranial Osteopathy

This is an even more specialized branch in the Cranial field. Babies and children are not yet fully developed and as such their cranial needs differ vastly from adults.

Having a well trained Pediatric therapist is necessary in order to safely offer this service to the public. We are proud to say that two of our Osteopathic Practitioners, Jackelyn and Jeannie both fit the above description.

Who should not get Cranial Osteopathy?

Cranial Osteopathy is not suitable for persons that have conditions where a change in intracranial fluctuations would have a negative impact; for example: recent brain hemorrhage/aneurysm or stroke. Please advise your therapist if you have a Chiari Malformation or a recent fracture of cranial bones, spinal column or Sacrum as they will need to alter their techniques once deemed appropriate.
